Adios. We amble away with humility, yet leaving exemplary footprints behind.
In the year 1927, the pre-commonwealth act. No. 3377 known as vocational act 1927 established Misamis Oriental Trade School (MOTS) operating at the elementary level. In 1936, the intermediate program was replaced with four-year secondary trade program. From the said year, the high school community had been a part of this institution, undoubtedly, bringing dignity and excellence to it. The university’s motto “SOARING GREATER HEIGHTS OF UNIVERSITYHOOD” had been accomplished when it was declared as the MINDANAO UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY by virtue of republic act 9519. Our hearts were full of delight because the name we had always been dreaming of, THE MINDANAO UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY is finally approved. But after moments of uncontained happiness, unexpectedly, the senate advised the board of regents and university officials to remove the SECONDARY LABORATORY SCHOOL and we feared, they did. The university no longer accepts first year high school students. We thought that the institution would defend us because academically speaking, we are really doing well. It breaks our heart, for every time we walk outside the campus, the people who heard about the matter CRITICIZE us. What’s WORSE is the even some of the students in our university thinks us an inferior and mediocre. BEFORE YOU ACCUSE US WITH THOSE WORDS, HEAR US OUT !!
To be part of the SECONDARY LABORATORY SCHOOL is already an achievement for us. We have always dreamt about studying in a standardized institution that offers us a vivid future and quality education without paying a high price. For the past years, we DON’T have any regrets in the paths that we had chosen. It’s our own choice to enroll ourselves in this institution that we have looked up for practically, our whole life. A well-established institution roots its university officers, board of regents, faculty, and staff and of course, THE STUDENTS. The students, the most essential part of an institution are the one who will establish its name throughout the whole world. This institution is composed of different schools that act as one rather than achieving glory for itself. What a student/group earns, the university is proud of them. THE SLS, is a school for the previous years that has gained and is gaining awards fotr the university’s pride. If given another chance and our true potentials to be fully furnished, we have so much gain. Maybe some of the fault will be blamed on us but it’s not entirely our fault. How can we be heard if at first place we are not given a chance to talk? Grant us another chance to prove ourselves that we are worth keeping and worth fighting for: lastly to showcase to the whole world that we are worthy to be a part of the MINDANAO UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY. If the dices have been thrown and the decisions have been made; if all the chances we have are drained out, and if removing US we would be the only way for the institution to achieve its dream, then we would gladly bestow it. That is how much we LOVE AND RESPECT our alma mater.
